Olive oil
It’s a winner! Zaytoun’s extra virgin olive oil, which we have stocked ever since Zaytoun was founded 22 years ago, has just been awarded 1 star Great Taste Award. The specially marked bottles and tins will appear early next year.
All of Zaytoun’s award-winning olive oil is extra virgin, first cold pressed, organically grown and fairly traded. The oil sourced through Sindyanna of Galilee is organic certified. The oil sourced through Canaan, PARC and UAWC is organic certified or in conversion to organic. Our suppliers source the oil from cooperatives in the areas of Salfit, Tulkarem, Nablus, Jenin and the Galilee.
Olive oil is an integral part of the Palestinian economy and culture. Olive oil production goes back 5,000 years in Palestine and the olive trees have been passed through generations of same family. The harvest today still sees the whole family, from great-grandparents down to the children and babies, coming together under their trees to harvest their fruit. The olives are hand picked and taken on a daily basis to the local press house. The taste of the warm, peppery oil straight from the press and the rich smell of oil in the air are unforgettable.
