Fairer World is a dedicated Fair Trade shop in York promoting sustainable living.
Fair Trade enables producer groups in Africa, Asia and Latin America to improve their communities, increase their access to health care and education and have more control over their own lives.
Fairer World’s food range comprises a wide variety of coffees, teas, chocolate, nut butters and dried fruits; gluten-free, organic and Palestinian foods, plus seasonal products. Catering sizes of key items are also available.
Our selection of crafts, including greetings cards, jewellery and bags, handmade paper and ceramics consistently prove very popular.
Our children’s range includes knitted jackets from Peru, wooden jigsaws and Noah’s Arks from Sri Lanka, and knitted dolls also from Sri Lanka.
Our clothing range currently comprises white and navy blue T-shirts and a huge choice of socks, both from Thought, plus some aprons from Mbedza. More clothing lines are due to arrive in the shop in the spring.
To complement our Fair Trade products we stock a wide range of household goods and environmental cleaning products.
Fairer World is located at 84 Gillygate, York, YO31 7EQ. Core shop hours are as below, though the shop is often open either side of those times and on Sunday afternoons, too.

We welcome orders by email, phone or text and offer free delivery in and around York. Price lists can be downloaded here (in MS Excel) and will also be emailed on request. We regret we are not able to offer a mail-order service.
We supply churches and schools with products and resources for church stalls and school shops, for special events like fetes, and refreshments for after church services and school staff rooms. See our food page for more details.
We are happy to take payment by card, cash, bank transfer and cheque.
